Leo Universal Plantation is the largest coffee plantation in Sierra Leone and is in Tonkia Chiefdom, Kenema District, in the Eastern Province of Sierra Leone. The district borders both Guinea and Liberia and was one of the worst-hit districts during the Ebola outbreak and regional conflicts, where, for example, many chiefdoms faced full quarantines and experienced some of the worst trade and movement restrictions in the country during the outbreak.
In the wake of the various crises, with an eye towards being part of the rehabilitation of the local communities, Leo Universal Plantation was established to help create jobs through the cultivation, and exporting of coffee, thereby empowering and reducing the poverty level of smallholder farmers in rural communities in Kenema, Kailahun, and Kono districts.
